A Heavy(weight) Dose Of Boxing On June 2nd!

It appears that Russian boxing fans are going to have a big treat on their hands on June 2nd. Shannon Briggs will take on Russia’s own Sultan Ibragimov for Briggs’ WBO Heavyweight Title. Briggs and Ibragimov we’re slated to fight last Saturday, but after coming down with pneumonia, forcing the fight to be delayed. It’s interesting as to why Briggs would agree to take a title defense fight in Russia. Must be for the money.

Also rumored to fight on June 2nd is WBC heavyweight champion Oleg maskaev. Word is spreading that a title defense against Vitali Klitschko is all but official. Sam Peter, the #1 challenger, was reportedly paid $2.75M to step aside to allow the Maskaev-Klitschko fight to take place.
There is also a possbility that Sam Peter will also be fighting June 2nd in Russia. Peter would be on the undercard of the Maskaev-Klitschko fight.
One could only wish that all three fights would all be on the same card, showing the top heavyweights in the world today. But considering they’re promoted by different companies, that is unlikely to happen.
More news as we hear it!
