New York, NY, Nov. 9th - Encore! Encore! In a tremedously exciting battle, Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KO’s) continued his rise on the pound for pound best list when he outslugged living legend Shane Mosley (44-5, 37KO’s) over 12 rounds in New York. Cotto and Mosley stood toe-to-toe from round one and never stopped. Mosley showed that he can still compete against the best in the welterweight division.
Cotto showed signs of fatigue after round 9 when Mosley started to push him back against the ropes. Judges at ringside score the bout 116-113, 115-113, 115-113, all for Cotto
In earlier action action, Antonio Margarito (35-5, 25KO’s) scored a 1st round TKO over Golden Johnson. Margarito dropped Johnson three times before the referee stopped the bout.
Joel Casamayor (35-3-1, 21KO’s) escape with a favorable decision over unlucky Jose Armando Santa Cruz (25-3, 14KO’s). Casamayor was given an early Christmas gift by the judges.
Exciting young propect Victor Ortiz (20-1, 15KO’s) opened the night up with a stunning 1st round KO of former champ Carlos Mausa (20-5, 10KO’s). Ortiz sent Maussa down with a power straight.
