Cotto-Urkal, Miranda-Green On HBO Tonight!

Boxing fans have been waiting for this day for a long time. March 3rd could go down as the best night of boxing in a long time. The main event showcases the possible future of boxing. Puerto Rico’s own Miguel Cotto defends his WBA Welterweight Title against Germany’s Oktay Urkal live from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In the undercard, we have knockout machine Edison Miranda taking on undefeated, and just as dangerous, Allan Green. The Puerto Rican fans sure have a treat on their hands tonight!

Cotto (28-0, 23 KO’s) is entering his second fight as a Welterweight since moving up in weight in December. He recently forced fellow Puerto Rican Carlos Quintana to quit on the stool after the 5th round to win the WBA title. Cotto now looks to add to his solid record, when he takes on Urkal (38-3, 12 KO’s). Cotto, a future pound-for-pound king, has more than just a belt to lose this fight. A June 6th fight with former Welterweight champ Zab Judah could cause Cotto to lose a little bit of his attention toward this fight, and could have Urkal pull of a huge upset.
Urkal isn’t a fighter, he’s a boxer. With less than half his wins coming by knockout, he’ll look to box his way for twelve rounds against the ferocious Cotto. But it’s easier than done, since the WBA champ is praised for his ability to cut off a ring, and trap his opponents. Urkal, whose last big fight was a lost against Kostya Tszyu, lacks big fight experience ,and with thousands of Cotto supporters in attendance, the whole event might be too much for him.
Edison Miranda and Allan Green may steal the spotlight tonight from Miguel Cotto. Both fighters love to punish their opponents and are always looking for the knockout. I recommend that all fans watch and enjoy this fight.
Make sure to tune in tonight at 9:45PM EST/6:45PM PST live on HBO to catch this great card!
