Diaz-Freitas Tonight On B.A.D.!

One of the sports most exciting young fighters will be on display as WBA Lightweight Champion Juan Diaz defends his title against the WBO Lightweight Champion Acelino Freitas in an explosive twelve round unification fight. “HBO: Boxing After Dark” will televise the main event live from the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

At only 23, Diaz (31-0, 15 KO’s) is considered the best Lightweight fighter in the world today. He burst onto the scene in 2004, when, at only 20 years old, he captured the WBA Title with a unanimous decision victory over Lakva Sim. Since then he’s added six straight wins, three of them coming from knockout. Diaz has proven he has the stamina to go the distance, but can also end a fight early. A win could set Diaz up with another unification fight against WBC Champion Joel Casamayor at the end of the year.
Freitas (38-1, 31 KO’s) is just as exciting as Diaz. With all but seven of his wins coming by knockout, Freitas is a threat for any fighter. With more than half his knockouts coming before the 6th round, Freitas has proven that he loves to go for the early knockout. Freitas does lack big fight experience, with his only big time fight ending with a 10th round knockout loss to Diego Corrales.
Make sure to tune into HBO tonight at 10PM EST/PST to catch this explosive unification main event.
