The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II is set for Saturday, April 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev.  The event will be broadcast live on pay-per-view beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

As a fan of the sport, I say shame on you Golden Boy Promotion, Top Rank Promotions, and both fighters for not getting this fight done. Shame on you Floyd  Mayweather for wanting the change the rules, which have been established and used in in Nevada, including your own fight. Shame on you Manny for not submitting to the tests and raising doubts that you are not a clean fighters. You both had a chance to make the boxing world proud and establish who is the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

The lawsuit claims the Mayweathers, de la Hoya, and Schaefer knew that Pacquiao has never taken performance-enhancing drugs, knew their statements were false, but made them anyway out of “ill-will, spite, malice, revenge, and envy.”

Pacquiao has retained Daniel Petrocelli of the Los Angeles-based law firm of O’Melveny & Myers LLP. About the filing of the complaint, Petrocelli stated: “Manny Pacquiao’s achievements come from God-given talent and an indefatigable work ethic — not steroids. He cannot and will not allow others to deliberately misrepresent his years of hard work and tarnish his reputation.”

The lawsuit was filed in federal district court

“I can’t believe these guys can lie without batting an eyelash and they would even make it appear that I am the culprit for the delay of the fight and saying that I don’t want it to happen,” Pacquiao continued.  The negotiation hit a snag when Mayweather demanded unprecedented random blood testing up to the day before the fight.  This is something that has never happened in boxing history.

“They all went on the record, and there is no denying as to who is lying or not.  For including my country in the picture, claiming that we are producers of the best performance enhancing drugs, Mayweather and those who are guilty need to get punished, the sooner, the better, whether it be in the courts or in the ring,” as Pacquiao’s lawyers are preparing defamation and slander lawsuits against the Mayweather’s, Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.

The ironic twist is that Golden Boy Promotions owns a piece of Pacquiao promotional royalties.  For every Pacquiao fight, Golden Boy Promotions gets a percentage of the revenues.  “Again, all we need to see are the other recorded transcripts of what they said in websites and blogs. It is a pity that Oscar “Golden Boy” Dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions should have been supporting me, too, because his company has a promotional stake in my career. They all say they got my back, but yes, they stab me, too, when I turn my back,” said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao has never tested positive for any type of drug, performance enhancing drug or any other illegal substance.  “I want to put this on the record again, that I will abide by the Nevada State Athletic Commission requirements like in all of the fights in boxing history, including all of my fights.  In all my years of fighting, I have never tested positive for any steroids or performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) use. I will provide any specimen, whether it be blood or urine samples, just right after the fight but not a day or two before, for obvious reasons. That should stop these clowns from asking for other drug testing procedures other than the ones already required by the NSAC.”

Mayweather and his team had made unprecedented requests of Pacquiao to have random blood and urine tests; something that has never before been done in boxing.  Pacquiao agreed to have blood drawn, twice before the fight and once immediately after.  Mayweather rejected that.

Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter said yesterday that the fight is dead.  He had already started negotiations with Paulie Malignaggi and that fight will now happen on March 13, 2010, instead of Pacquiao-Mayweather.

As reported here first, there was just too many hurdles in the negotiation process to get over to make the fight happen in March.  Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy Promotions CEO and Mayweather’s promoter perhaps made a fatal mistake in the negotiations.  This is not a super-fight, this is The Super-Fight.  Schaefer and Mayweather’s demands went to the extreme.  Maybe they thought they can push Arum and Pacquiao around.   Schaefer is known to be a sharp businessman and excellent negotiator.  One thing is clear, Schaefer should have had the foresight to see this coming.  Instead he pushed further and negotiated against himself and against his fighter, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

In responding to Schaefer’s statement, Arum said today  “Schaefer is making it up”. It is not true, it is just not true. He is making this up now because he looks bad. He is making this up because he is trying to justify it to Mayweather. Let’s see if he can justify it to Mayweather why this fight is now dead.”

Never in the history of boxing have such drug testing demands been made.  Mayweather is the first to ask for such.  The Nevada State Athletic Commission has handled drug testing for boxing matches in Nevada for the past 40-years.  No demands have ever been made.
