Coming off the heels of his destruction of Ray Mercer, Kimbo Slice showed both his supporters and his critics that he trained properly and was prepared to enter the cage last night at Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5, a mixed martial arts (MMA) competition ran by Felix Martinez of Atlantic City.
“I’m gonna get in there and do my best. I’m gonna give 110%. I’m not gonna sit down, I’m ready to bang it out you know” said Slice back in March when touchgloves.com sat down to interview him. And bang it out he did.
Slice entered the cage looking in better shape than we have previously seen. Weighing in at 239lbs, Slice was anticipating about 260lbs. for this fight as his normal weight is about 280lbs. His preparation and training was obvious.
Slice looked eager as he stared Mercer down before both fighters were introduced. Mercer, former heavyweight world champion looked calm and relaxed. However, the 46-yr-old did not look to be in the best physical shape weighing about 241lbs. With a stomach that would make Homer Simpson proud, it was clear which fighter was stronger.
The fighters came face-to-face both expressing their anxiousness to start, both talking to one another with clear angst. The bell rang and it was all Slice. Slice attacked Mercer pushing him against the cage. Neither fighter landed anything clear. Slice took Mercer down to the ground immediately. Both Slice and Mercer tried to land punches but neither connected with anything significant and both stood up once again.
Slice then put together an impressive series of Muay Thai knees which broke down the seemingly fatigued Mercer. Slice then put together combination punches to the head and body like a junior middleweight champion. The punches were coming too fast for Mercer to react and Slice finished off his combo with a series of vicious elbows.
Mercer was confused and couldn’t react while he was trying to protect himself from Slice’s barrage of punches. Slice reached down, and pulled Mercer’s legs once again going to the ground. Slice then put Mercer in a guillotine choke forcing Mercer to tap out at 3:50 seconds.
It took Slice only 1 minute and 10 seconds to dispose of Mercer.
