Klitschko Wins Coin Flip, Fight Still On!

Wladimir Klitschko will defend his IBF Heavyweight Title tonight against number one challenger Ray Austin live from Mannheim, Germany. After 24 hours of trouble between both camps on which gloves would be used, there was a coin flip, and Klitschko came out victorious. Both fighters will now use Reyes boxing gloves. Klitschko may have won this battle, but the war has just begun.

Klitschko ( 47-3, 42 KO’s) is the true dominant heavyweight in a division that’s still looking for a unified champion. Four different titles, four different champions, and one unhappy boxing community. Regardless, Klitschko looks to handle his own business against the unknown Austin tonight. Klitschko has been untouchable since his knockout loss to Laman Brewster back in 2004. Since then, he’s pulled off 5 straight victories, 4 of them knockouts, including a vicious knockout of then unbeaten Calvin Brock last year. If Klitschko can get past this mandatory defense, we expect Nikolai Valuev to be Klitschko’s next opponent in a fight that would be a great step in restoring the heavyweight division.
American born Austin (24-3-4, 16 KO’s) is in for the fight of his life. “The Rainman” looks to shock the boxing world when he steps into the ring tonight against Klitschko. Austin’s career lacks big fight experience. His biggest fight thus far was the IBF Title eliminator fight against Sultan Ibragimov July of last year, which ended in a draw. Nonetheless, look for Austin to came out quick, as i expect him to be angry and aggressive due to the whole glove controversy, including, as mentioned above, losing the coin flip earlier today.
Make sure to catch tonight’s (this afternoon) heavyweight title fight at 4:15PM EST/1:15 PST live on HBO. For those who will miss the early telecast, HBO will show a replay of the fight tonight.
