Little Known Sergei Liakhovich came to this country with $100 in his pocket and a dream to one day becoming heavyweight champion. We`ll tonight in Cleveland Ohio, that Dream came true.

In what was one of the best heavyweight bouts in recent history, Sergei LIakhovich defeated Lamon Brewster to capture the WBO World Heavyweight Title. Liakhovich (23-1, 14 KO`s) out worked and at times out slugged the slugger Brewster. The Fast paced action continued all througout the fight. At times, both fighters looked like they had reached the end, only to come back firing. Brewster (33-3, 29KO`s) looked to end the fight in the 7th, when his onslaught of punches caused Liakhovich to take a knee toward the end of the round. However, Liakhovich was able to come back and almost put Brewster on the mat in the 9th. The knockdown had no effect on the outcome of the fight as all three judges at ringside had the fight in favor of Liakhvich (115-113, 115-112, 117-110)

After the fight, Liakhovich thanked Don King and Lamon Brewster for the opportunity to fight for the championship. Both fighters said they looked forward to the rematch.
