Los Angeles, CA (November 23, 2007) – In a highly entertaining matchup, Ricardo Mayorga (28-6-1, 22 KOs) earned a majority decision over Fernando Vargas (26-5, 22 KOs) sending the Mexican warrior into retirement with his 6th loss. In front of a large pro-vargas crowd, the fighters stood toe-to-toe throughout the night. Mayorga came out guns blazing and dropped Vargas late in the 2nd round. As the fight progressed, Vargas seemed to find his groove, as his jab and over hand rights began to land flush on Mayorga. However, the wild man from Nicaragua was not through, and he found a second wind late in the fight, dropping Vargas with a striaght right in the 11th. The fighters traded shots in till the final bell as the crowd roared with delight. Judge at ringside scored the about 113-113, 115-111, and 114-112. After all the verbal jabbing, both fighters embraced after the fight in a show of true professionalism and sportsmanship.
