Carson, CA - After a lackluster 11 rounds, Shane Mosley reminded the boxing world why he was once considered the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. Mosley (45-5, 38KOs) knocked out the Wildman Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23KO’s) infront of 5,798 at the Home Depot Center. Mosley came out slow, but picked it up in the middle rounds. Mayorga, always the showman, used his aggressive and awkward style to continually attack Mosley. However, a barrage of punches with under a minute left in the fight sent Mayorga to the canvas. Mayorga rose with seconds left, only to meet a devestating left hook that sent him sprawling to the canvas. The fight was offically called at 2:59. After the 11th round, the judges at ringside at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., had the fight scored:105-104 Mayorga, 105-104 Mosley, and 107-102 Mosley.
After the fight Mayorga had nothing but praise for his opponent. Said Mayorga, “I was proud of the way Shane fought, like a true champion. He didn’t run. I thought I was doing well in the fight, and I came out to win it in the last round, but Shane caught me…I will tell that he hit harder than I thought he would.”
On the Undercard, Andre Berto kept his undefeated streak alive with a workman like win over Steve Forbes. Berto (23-0, 19KO’s) landed the harder shots as he sailed to his 23rd win. Judges at ringside scored the bout 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111 all for Berto.
