In what was described as a superfight made 4 years too late, Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas faced off this past Saturday February 25, 2006 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Preceeding the fight, both Vargas and Mosley guaranteed victories, with Vargas looking ahead to a rematch with Oscar De La Jolla, and Mosley vowing to reclaim his name in the boxing world.

Boxing can`t survive without young stars to keep it going and Warriors has that end of the business covered with Junior Welterweight bomber and top contender Juan Urango and his fellow Colombian Edison Miranda, a rising force in the Middleweight Division. Add Russian cousins Sultan and Timor Ibragimov to the mix in a Heavyweight Division in need of some exciting new blood, as well as top prospects Danny Jimenez and Jesus Pabon, and boxing fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years from this sensational six, especially considering their combined record of 87-0-2 with 67 knockouts.

Mesi is scheduled to arrive in San Juan on Saturday, when he will be formally presented his license by Jose Penagaricano, chairman of the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission. Although an opponent has not yet been signed, Mesi`s bout is tentatively scheduled for April 1 in Guaynabo, a city just outside of San Juan.

Breen would tell you that promoting the noble art is not his cup of tea, and in a department of the game with such a sulphurous whiff of risk and let-down at times, that`s understandable. "I`m first and foremost a boxing coach," says the man who ranks Dave McAuley as the best of Ireland`s world champions, better even than Barry McGuigan.

Antonio Margarito scored a sensational knockout of Manual Gomez in the first round of their bout in Las Vegas. At 1:14 of the first round, Referee Richard Steel halted the bout after Gomez was floor by a barrage of Margarito punches. Gomez (28-11-2, 20 KOs), who looked badly hurt after hit the floor and spit out his mouth piece, was not happy with the stoppage.
Earlier in the evening, junior flyweight champion Brian Viloria (19-0, 12 KOs) went the distance against Jose Antonio Aguirre (33-5-1, 20 KOs) to retain his title. Viloria came out fast and was able to survive a three round assault by Aguirre on his way to a unanimous decision. Super Featherweight Champ Manny Pacquiao was in the crowd to cheer on his fellow countryman.
