Results from Las Vegas: Margarito KO`s Gomez

Fight Night in Vegas

Antonio Margarito scored a sensational knockout of Manual Gomez in the first round of their bout in Las Vegas. At 1:14 of the first round, Referee Richard Steel halted the bout after Gomez was floor by a barrage of Margarito punches. Gomez (28-11-2, 20 KOs), who looked badly hurt after hit the floor and spit out his mouth piece, was not happy with the stoppage.

After the fight Margarito (33-4, 24 KOs) called out Floyd Mayweather Jr. warning that if Floyd still doesn’t know who he is, he’ll show him with his punches. Bob Arum said he has July 29th open for the winner of the Judah/Mayweather showdown.

Earlier in the evening, junior flyweight champion Brian Viloria (19-0, 12 KOs) went the distance against Jose Antonio Aguirre (33-5-1, 20 KOs) to retain his title. Viloria came out fast and was able to survive a three round assault by Aguirre on his way to a unanimous decision. Super Featherweight Champ Manny Pacquiao was in the crowd to cheer on his fellow countryman.
