Barrera defeats Juarez by Split Decision!

Boxing fans were treated to a gift courtesy of Marco Antonio Barrera and Rocky Juarez Saturday night as both fighters fought a very exciting and action packed bout at the Staple Center in Los Angeles.

Boxing fans were treated to a gift courtesy of Marco Antonio Barrera and Rocky Juarez Saturday night as both fighters went all out, with Barrera getting the split decision. Barrera,(61-4-1) came out looking strong boxing and quickly establishing his jab. In true warrior fashion, Barrera did not fear trading blows with the younger Juarez. However, in the 3rd round, Juarez (25-1-1) landed a series of hard punches that seemed to stun Barrera, although Barrera seemed to control the bout through the first 7 rounds. In the 8th round, Juarez seemed to begin to press Barrera, landing hard lefts and right to Barrera’s bloody face.

In typical Barrera style, the action reached its peak in the 11th round where both fighters stood toe to toe and exchange punches. As Rocky would land a hard combination to stagger his opponent, Barrera would answer with a powerful combination of his own, punishing both the body and head. The fight would go the distance, leaving all fans very satisfied.

The judges at ringside scored the fight 115-113 for Barrera, 115-113 for Juarez, and one judge scoring the bout 115-114. The bout was originally accounced as a draw, but a judge at ringside miscalculated his totals. It was later announced that the mistake was made. I’m sure everyone will agree that everyone involved in this fight was a winner. Barrera survived the onslaught of a young bull and Rocky Juarez has made a last impression on the boxing scene.
