A Champion In Boxing, A Hero To A Country

As I’m making the drive to the “WildCard Boxing Club” I started to think of which questions I should ask Manny, how he’ll respond, and do I dare ask about his Golden Boy Deal? The drive is about twenty minutes from the touchgloves.com offices, but that’s before bothering to figure in the L.A. traffic I’m about to endure. As I make the exit off the freeway, off to the side, up in the hills, I see the world famous “HOLLYWOOD” sign. It’s fitting that a man who came from nothing is training in the city where they say dreams come true.

Maskaev Interested In Fighting Hopkins!

Oleg Maskaev would accept a fight with Bernard Hopkins, if the possibility ever presented itself. As long as his management would approve the fight, he would be more than willing to go up against the newly retired former Middleweight King. In fact, Golden Boy Promotions, which Hopkins partially owns, has been calling the Heavyweight Champs management, and letting them know that they are serious about getting the two fighters into the ring together. This, however, wouldn’t be the same as Roy Jones Jr. fighting Heavyweight slob John Ruiz, because Makaev can throw a punch and doesn’t hold 100 times a fight like the above mentioned slob.

Breaking News: Corrales Does NOT Make Weight, Fight Still On!

In a weird twist, Diego Corrales did not make the 135 pound weight limit for his fight tomorrow night against Joel Casamayor. Corrales has been stripped of his title, will be fined, and could face a possible suspension. He offered a portion of his $1.2 million dollar purse to Casamayor, which helped keep the fight on.

Corrales had promised, after his fight with Castillo had been cancelled, that he would never disrespect boxing the way Castillo had. It seems that his problems with the month of October continues!

De La Hoya Done With Trinidad, Cheering For Mayweather Jr.

Oscar De La Hoya has officially ended his attempts to set up a rematch with Felix Trinidad. Many problems arose during negotiations, mainly purse split and weight. Trinidad wants 60-40, while De La Hoya wants 70-30. Trinidad eventually settled at 50-50, but Oscar never came around to agree. When it came time to agree on weight, Trinidad refused to go below 160 and De la Hoya refused to go above 154.

De La Hoya has also stated that if Mayweather Jr. loses his fight to Baldomir, then he will just retire rather than fight Mayweather Jr. The reason, “I want to only fight the best pound for pound fighter!”
