De La Hoya-Wright In The Future?

The Los Angeles Daily News is reporting that Oscar De La Hoya`s fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th may not be his last afterall. The newspaper states that if De La Hoya defeats the pound-for-pound king in May, then a fight with Ronald "Winky" Wright could come soon after. Both fighters have recently stated that they would love to fight each other, if the opportunity ever presented itself. Wright feels that Oscar will in fact beat Mayweather, because he is "faster and stronger". But beating Mayweather Jr. is easier said than done!

Pacquiao Signs Deal With Top Rank!

Manny Pacquiao has rescinded his deal with Golden Boy Promotions and signed a 4-year deal with Bob Arum`s Top Rank Promotions, according to Bob Arum. At the post fight conference, Arum announced the deal to the media, stating that Pacquiao took advice from his lawyers, who more than likely told him that Arum would sue him for breaching his previous contract, and decided to sign a new deal.

It is also being reported that Golden Boy has refused to take back the $500,000 check that they had given Pacquiao as a bonus for signing with Golden Boy. Whatever happens, the matter will more than likely be settled in court.

Pacquiao Too Much For Morales

Manny Pacquiao may have just made a case for being pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world. On Saturday night live from Las Vegas, Nevada he annihilated Erik Morales (48-5) for almost 3 exciting rounds. In a rubber match, which had Fight of the Year written all over it, of this great rivalry, Pacquiao (42-3-2, 33 KO’s) showed the world why his speed, power, and fearless attitude makes him one of the best, if not the best, fighters on the planet. Pacquiao, who had the distraction of signing with Golden Boy Promotions while still under contract with Top Rank, maintained focus for eight minutes and fifty-seven seconds, which is all that it took to take down Morales.

Venue Change For Hatton-Urango

Rocky Hatton`s upcoming fight on January 20th with Juan Urango has had a small change. The fight, which was suppose to take place in Atlanta, Georgia, is now set to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. There has been no exact reason as to why the change in location took place. No arena has been chosen, but look for the "Thomas and Mack" Center to be the likely place for the fight to be held.

This is great news for boxing fans, like touchgloves own K.T., on the west coast who have been looking to catch a Hatton fight live in person.

Pacquiao And Morales News Update!

Manny Pacquiao and Erik Maroles are both in line to make the 130 pound weight limit for their fight next week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both fighters weighed in today at 136 pounds, according to WBC Officials, meeting the pre-fight 7 day weight limit. With the recent weight limit violations, this is great news for boxing fans and Morales. If Morales does not make weight, he must pay Pacquaio $500K for each pound he weighs over the 130 pound limit.

Touchgloves.com writers K.T., Reza, and myself will be at the Thomas and Mack Center for the fight. K.T. and Reza have been fortunate enough to be able to catch the two previous fights between these two great fighters.

Klitschko Knocks Out Brock, Retains Title!

NEW YORK (AP) -- Wladimir Klitschko stunned Calvin Brock with a sharp left, then finished him off with a thunderous right late in the seventh round Saturday night to successfully defend his IBF heavyweight title in a surprisingly competitive fight.

Klitschko rarely threw the right as he piled up points with his jab. But he found the range with the right midway in the bout, and Brock had no chance when Klitschko opened up the challenger`s defense with another quick left. The big right immediately followed and Brock fell face-down to the canvas.

Briggs KO`s Liakhovich, Wins IBO Title!

Shannon Briggs somehow pulled out a victory and returned a Heavyweight title back to the United States. For a fight that had no excitement, no drama, and no thrill for 11 rounds and 2 minutes, the final minute seemed to be worth the wait. Briggs landed numerous shots against Sergei Liakhovich, eventually sending him down with 30 seconds left in the 12th round. Statistically, Liakhovic could still hold onto his title, but took a number of good shots after the knockdown, could never recover, and eventually fell through the ropes and lost to Briggs when the ref stopped the fight with one second left.

Now Briggs is the new IBO Heavyweight Champion and will likely take on the winner of the Wladimir Klitschko-Calvin Brock fight next weekend in New York.
