Vazquez-Marquez, Darchinyan-Burgos Star On SHOWTIME!

SHOWTIME Boxing comes to you live from Southern California with a big fight card of their own. In the main event, two of the sports biggest bantamweight’s clash in a fight that has fight of the year written all over it. Israel Vazquez and Raul Marquez battle it out for 12 rounds at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California for Vazquez’s WBC Super Bantamweight title. In the undercard, IBO/IBF Flyweight king Vic Darchinyan takes on number one contender Victor Burgos. In a fight that is live on the East coast, and delayed on the West, we could only hope that East Coast fans will have their TiVo set on record.

Marquez (36-3, 32 KO’s) is one of the best fighters in the world today. With all but 4 fights coming by way of knockout, Marquez has excited fans in both Mexico and the United States for years. Going nearly 7 years now since losing, Marquez has gone through opponents left and right, and looks to add to his legacy, with a big win tonight against Vasquez. In his last 2 fight, Marquez has not knocked out both opponents with the last one earning him the IBO Title.

Vasquez (41-3, 30 KO’s) is another fan favorite whose had a championship filled career. He loves to end fights early, but has the stamina to go the distance with anyone. It’s still unclear whether Vasquez will have trainer Freddie Roach in his corner for his fight tonight. Roach has spent the last week and a half traveling the states with Oscar De La Hoya, promoting De La Hoya’s May 5th fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vazquez says Roach will be there, while other reports have stated Roach is in Puerto Rico with Oscar. The loss of Roach, one of the best trainers in the world today, could play a big factor in tonight’s outcome.

It’s hard to cheer for one fight more than the other. It should be a great main event, and should have the fans at the Home Depot Center leaving home satisfied.

Make sure to catch the undercard, as Flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan takes on Victor Burgos. Darchinyan is disputing the outcome of his last fight, protesting that he earned a knockout rather than a technical decision. Darchinyan, who’s got a devastating left hook, is another knockout specialist, looking to eventually set up a big fight against fellow Flyweight Jorge Arce. Vic should have no problem against the much weaker Burgos.

Tune in tonight, live or tape delayed, from Carson, California at 9:45PM ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
