Carlos "Tata" Baldomir returns to the ring May 19th on the Jermain Taylor/ Cory Spinks undercard against Vernon Forrest in what adds to an already exciting fight card. Baldomir (43-10-6, 13KO's) returns to the ring after losing the WBC and IBA welterweight titles to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last November.
Although he lost his last bout, Baldomir had a very successful year in 2006. In January, he shocked the boxing world by upsetting then WBC champ Zab Judah to capture his first major world title. He followed with a 9th round stoppage of fan favorite Arturo Gatti. These two victories propelled Baldomir to his showdown with Mayweather Jr. and also his biggest payday. Although he was beaten by Floyd, Carlos had many things to be happy about, including his purse for the fight, which was reportedly $1.6million, the largest payday of his career.
The Forrest/Baldomir match up adds to the already packed card, which is rumored to feature Edison Miranda vs. Kelly Miranda. Thought the fight is all but done, it has not been formally announced.
