Calzaghe-Manfredo Ready for War!

Calzaghe_Manfredo_4.jpg
Joe Calzaghe (42-0, 31 KO’s) looks to make his 20th straight successful title defense when he takes on Peter Manfredo (26-3, 12 KO’s) live from the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

The fight will be shown live on HBO. Calzaghe, the WBO Super Middleweight Champion, has been reigning supreme in the Super Middleweight division for the last ten years. He’s looking to attract more American fan attention with a win over “The Contender” runner-up Manfredo. Promoters expect a sold-out crowd of 35,000 to pack the Millennium Stadium.

The Wales-born Calzaghe (42-0, 31 KO’s) impressed American fans back in 2006 when he dominated American Jeff Lacy in his first American TV appearance on HBO. Since the Lacy destruction, U.S. boxing fans have hoped that Calzaghe would take a trip across the pond and fight a big time fighter such as Bernard Hopkins or Winky Wright. Once again, Calzaghe has the chance to earn himself a big time championship fight, this time with Middleweight king Jermain Taylor.

Manfredo (26-3, 12 KO’s) earned fame as a boxer on NBC’s “The Contender”. Since losing the finale, Manfredo has quickly rebounded and earned two big knockout victories against Scott Pemberton and Joe Spina. With the help of boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, Manfredo has the opportunity to shock the world and take down Calzaghe. It’s been a long journey for the twenty-six year old Manfredo, who’s as confident as he’s ever been as a professional boxer.

Also on the under card, Britain hottest boxing prospect Amir Khan (11-0, 8KO's) will be in action.

Make sure to tune in to HBO at 5pm EST/2pm PST to catch the fight live from Cardiff, Wales. HBO will show a replay of the fight tonight at 10pm EST.
