In front of a packed crowd in Mississippi, Zab Judah (34-4, 25KO's) returned to the ring and controversy. His return bout on ESPN's Friday Night fights was ruled a No Contest after the fight was stopped because of an "accidental foul" caused a bloody gash along Ruben Galvin's head. With his tuneup victory over Ruben Galvin (27-11-2, 10KO's), Judah has cleared the way for a June 9th bout with Puerto Rican sensation and welterweight champion Miguel Cotto.
Judah outclassed his opponent from the moment they signed the contracts. Looking to be in top notch shape, Judah came out strong and anxious to get started. Judah established his super jab within the first 15 seconds and quickly began to unload quick power shorts to the head and body of the over-matched Galvin. The fight was stopped just over a minutre into the fight, as a disgusting gash was opened up on Galvin's head. The Cut was first thought to be caused by a headbutt or elbow, but replays were It looked like a barrage of punches, including a devastating right upper cut, were to blame for the gash. The gash may have been the best thing to happen to Galvin, as he was spared an evening of punishment.
Although it was a short fight, Judah showed no real ring rust and appeared to be in tremendous shape. He is can now direct all his attention to his matchup with Cotto. In pre-fight comments, Judah stated that he would have more Puerto Rican fans than Cotto when they meet June 9th in New York. I'm not sure anyone believes that, but we'll be sure to tune in.
