Pacman stops Solis! Arce & Viloria lose

banner-4.jpg

Filipino Sensation and congressional candidate Manny Pacquiao (44-3-2, 35KO's) scored a Knockout victory over previously undefeated Jorge Solis (32-1-2, 23KO's). Pacman came out slow due to Solis's awkward style. The larger Solis was able to use his longer arms to slow the forward pressing Pacquiao. In the 6th round, a gash opened up above Pacquiao's left eye after an accidental clash of heads. From that moment on, Pacquiao began to increase the pressure and attack Solis. In the 8th round, Solis was dropped twice after a barrage of punches from Manny. Solis was unable to rise before Referee Vick Drakulich counted to 10. Official time was 1:16 of the 8th round.

- In a one-sided upset Super Flyweight Champion Cristian Mijares (31-3-2, 12KO's) put on a clinic against fan favorite Jorge Arce (46-4-1, 35KO's) in his first title defense and kept his title in a unanimous decision. Mijares out-punched Arce landing jab after jab. The southpaw used each round to stick and move, us combinations and land at will. Arce's face was bloodied by an accidental headbutt in the 9th round. Arce continued to throw punches and move forward but was not successful in landing many. Mijares was able to move Arce back several times, a position he is not used to. Arce got hurt by a left hook in the 10th round as the blood ran down his face. Eager to move forward although not landing any punches, Arce continued to eat punch after punch. Mijares blasted Arce in the 10th round with combinations that stunned Arce who was obviously frustrated. In the 12th round, Arce came out swinging, but once again was stoped by Mijares combinations and an accurate jab. Arce was unable to find Mijares all night. Tonight, the heart of the warrior was not enough. At the end of the 12th round, both fighters hugged one another in a sign of great respect and admiration. Arce landed only 15% of his punches. Judges score cards: 119-109, 118-110, 117-111, unanimous decision for Cristian Mijares. The night of upsets continue.

- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (31-0- 1, 24KO's) scored an impressive 2nd round KO over Anthony Shuler (20-5-1, 14KO's). Shuler was went to the canvas twice in the 2nd round, both by devastating left hooks. The second of the hooks caused the referee to step in and stop the bout. The fight was officially stopped at 1:32 of the second round.

- In a highly exciting Light Flyweight Championship bout, Edgar Sosa (27-5, 14KO's) outworked his opponent Brian Viloria (19-2, 12KO's)to capture the Vacant WBC Title. Both fighters came out determined to win. Most of the fight took place in the center of the ring, exchanging powerful blows often putting 2-3 punch combos together. Vilora came our strong in the opening rounds, but began to slow as the fight went on. At times, it seemed Vilora would stand still and wait for Sosa to get off first. Sosa turned up the action as the fight went on, putting on full power in the final minute of the 12th round throwing powerful combinations and landing at will. Villoria failed to once again force the fight and continue with combinations. Judges score cards were: 114-114, 115-113, 115-113 Majority Decision for Edgar Sosa.
