My Predictions For 2008!

Some people may think that it’s a little too late to list my 2008 predictions for boxing when January is one week from being over, but I thought I’d wait for the first big fight of the year to finish first. I was curious to see if the first big fight of the year would give us a glimpse of what the future might bring, kind of like how Appalachian State's upset over the University of Michigan should have prepared us for a wacky college football season. Late or not, here are my 2008 predictions:

-Every heavyweight champion, with the exception of Wladamir Klitschko, will lose his title.

-Manny Pacquaio will finally win a real championship belt.

Jones Jr. Beats Trinidad!

January 19, 2008- In the first big fight of 2008, Former Pound-for-Pound King Roy Jones Jr. turned back to the clock to defeat Puerto Rican Legend Felix "Tito" Trinidad in a highly entertaining bout in New York. Jones Jr (52-4, 38KO's) came out sluggish, allowing Tito the chance to move forward and tee off on Jones' body. Jones seemed to change his tactics during the fourth round as he slowly began to let his hands go and walking Tito (42-3, 35KO's) backwards. The key punch for Jones was the lead right. At times it seems Jones Jr. could throw and land the punch at will.

In the 7th round, Jones Jr. landed a counter right hook that sent Trindad to the floor. From then on, it was all Jones Jr as his speed and ring quickness overpowered Trinidad's courage and heart. Trinidad was again decked in the 10th round by a Jones left.

Judges at ringside scored the bout 116-110, 116-110, & 117-109 all in favor of Jones Jr.

Why is Don King the best in the business?
Anyone can sell a fight that people want to see. Don King is a man that can sell a fight that nobody wants to see and turn it into a big event. Don King could sell a Rabbi a Christmas tree. Don King could probably convince you that global warming is good for planet Earth. Don King just might even be able to convince New Yorkers that the Knicks are playoff bound!

Malignaggi given late Christmas Gift in Atlantic City!

January 5th, 2008 - In his first fight of 2008, Paulie Malignaggi turned in a lackluster performance against determined Herman Ngoudjo, being awarded a lucky unanimous decision tonight in Atlantic City. Malignaggi (24 - 1, 5KOs) started back-peddling from the opening round and could not get his jab in rhythm. Although landing fewer punches, Ngoudjo (19-2, 9KO's) landed the harder punches throughout the fight, stunning Malignaggi a few times through the course of the bout. In a surprise, Ngoudjo got stronger as the fight entered the later rounds, pushing the action and punished Malignaggi until the final bell. However, according to the judges, it was little too late.

Judges at ringside scored the bout 115-113, 116-113, and 117-111.
