Some people may think that it’s a little too late to list my 2008 predictions for boxing when January is one week from being over, but I thought I’d wait for the first big fight of the year to finish first. I was curious to see if the first big fight of the year would give us a glimpse of what the future might bring, kind of like how Appalachian State's upset over the University of Michigan should have prepared us for a wacky college football season. Late or not, here are my 2008 predictions:
-Every heavyweight champion, with the exception of Wladamir Klitschko, will lose his title.
-Manny Pacquaio will finally win a real championship belt.
-Floyd Mayweather Jr. will remain undefeated.
-Juan Diaz will hold all four Lightweight Titles and graduate from Law School.
-Somebody will knockout Paulie Malignaggi.
-The curse of Buddy Mcgirt will live on.
-Luis Collazo will get another tatoo.
-All three Welterweight Champions will avoid Paul Williams.
-Cory Spinks will continue to be the most boring fighter in boxing.
-Kelly Pavlik will remain undefeated.
-Joe Calzaghe will lose a fight.
-Winky Wright won’t find a fight.
-Edison Miranda will still have no defense, but will score two incredible knockout victories and
finally revenge his lost to Arthur Abraham.
-Jeff Lacy will tear his other shoulder.
-Antonio Tarver will get knocked out and still overrate himself.
-Glen Johnson will do his crossed-arm badass pose again.
-Oscar De La Hoya will make a lot of money.
-I will still not be able to understand what Roger Mayweather is saying.
-Miguel Cotto will hold two Welterweight title belts.
-Darnell ‘Ding-A-Ling Man’ Wilson will still have the best nickname in boxing.
-Fight of the year: Israel Vazquez KO’s Rafael Marquez in the 9th round.
-There will still only be one Ricky Hatton.
