Strikeforce Shatters Live Gate Records In Washington State

strikeforcelogo.jpgTACOMA, WA.— With a live audience of 7,089 at Tacoma Dome on Saturday, February 23rd, “Strikeforce At The Dome” surpassed the dollar amount grossed by any boxing, mixed martial arts, or kickboxing gate in Washington State history.

“It’s an honor that the people in the Tacoma and Seattle area welcomed us with such open arms our first time there,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker. “The public’s embracement of the event is evidence of its hunger to see a big mixed martial arts fight card live as well as its true understanding of the sport.”

During the live HDNet telecast of “Strikeforce At The Dome,” fans witnessed the transformation of Cory “The One” Devela (8-1) from local hero to national star as the 23-year-old Bonney Lake, Washington native and former junior college wrestling standout stopped Joe “Diesel” Riggs (27-10) with a textbook judo throw that rendered the far more experienced competitor on his back and unable to continue the contest.

Former UFC and K-1 North America Champion, Maurice Smith (74-20-4), also shined in front of his hometown fans as he quickly submitted fellow kickboxing legend, Rick “The Jet” Roufus (57-8) with an armlock at the 1:53 mark of the fight’s opening round.

Bodog Fight was the event’s Presenting Sponsor.

“Everyone knows that a fight between me and Kelly will be an all action, knockdown fight,” said Lorenzo. “Someone's 0 will have to go and most definitely it will be by brutal knockout. I was the first one to congratulate Kelly back stage after he won the title in Sept, and I will be the first one to take it from him on June 7th . . . if he can get his promoter to agree to the fight.”

Lorenzo (26-0, 18 KO’s) has stopped his last eight opponents. The 27-year-old Washington Heights, NY resident by way of Jerringa San Cristobal, Dominican Republic has knocked out 15 opponents within the first three rounds. Klitschko beats Ibragimov in 12 Round Decision

In a 12-round heavyweight unification bout, Wladimir Klitschko, defeated Sultan Ibragimov in a very slow-paced, tactical decision. It was a clear blow-out for most viewers as Klitschko's size and jab were the winning factors. Ibragimov did not land one clean shot the entire fight, and was not able to get inside. Ibragimov looked frustrated as the southpaw was overmatched, overpowered and outboxed. The one-sided shut-out was confirmed as the judges ringside scored the bout 119-110, 117-111, 118-110.

Pavlik Outpoints Taylor!

Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik earned his second consecutive victory over Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor via unanimous decision Saturday night. Pavlik (33-0, 29 KO’s) controlled the fight with his jab all night. Taylor (27-2-1), who seemed hesitant at time, threw his punches sparingly rather consistently for the full twelve rounds. The judges scored the fight 117-111, 116-112, and 115-113 all for Pavlik. Touchgloves.com had it 116-112 for Pavlik.

Pavlik is rumored to make his first defense of his Middleweight titles in June against Tito Trinidad. Taylor will look to rebound and start fresh as a Super Middleweight contender.

Edison Miranda Interview With touchgloves.com Part II: "I am back and I will be stronger then ever"

edison_miranda.jpg The last time Edison Miranda spoke to touchgloves.com he was preparing for his Middleweight clash against current Middleweight Champion Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik. Miranda (30-2, 26 KO’s) was knocked out by Pavlik in the 7th round of a heavy hitting action packed fight. Since that lost, Miranda has moved up in weight to the Super Middleweight Division, scored impressive back-to-back knockout wins, and is now set to fight Jean Pascal later this year. Touchgloves.com recently caught up with Edison to talk about his plans for the future, Pavlik-Taylor II, and a possible fight with Jeff Lacy.

Hey Edison, thanks for taking time out again to talk to us. How are things going for you personally and professionally?

I am very happy with my first two fights at 168lbs. It is amazing how good I feel in the ring at the higher weight. It was getting more and more difficult making 160lbs, but I never realized how drained I was getting until I faced Pavlik. I don't see anyone at super middleweight that is going to stop me from getting to the top. My power is going to hurt someone badly!
