Oscar KO`s Mayorga to win WBC Light Middleweight Championship

The Golden Boy Oscar De la Hoya scored an impressive 6th round TKO over the Wild Man Ricardo Mayorga, capturing the WBC Light middleweight Championship.

The Golden Boy Oscar De la Hoya scored an impressive 6th round TKO over the Wild Man Ricardo Mayorga, capturing the WBC Light middleweight Championship. Oscar (38-4, 30 KO`s) dismissed any notion that “ring rust” would play a factor from the opening round. He landed a perfect left cross 60 seconds into the bout that sent Mayorga (28-6-1, 23KO`s) to the floor. The left hook would continue to hurt Mayorga throughout the fight. De La Hoya continued to press the action, not allowing Mayorga to force Oscar backwards.

After 6 very exciting and entertaining rounds, Oscar was again able to drop Mayorga with a barrage of punches. Showing the heart of a warrior, Mayorga was able to get up and continue, only to take a devastating beating which evoked memories of De La Hoya/Vargas. After a series of lefts and rights, Referee Jay Nady stopped the fight at 1:25 of the 6th round.

After the bout, in true sportsmanship, both fighters embraced each other in the ring. After weeks of verbal attacks and semi confrontations, it seems as though any bad blood between the two was settled in the ring.

This very impressive win again catapults the golden boy into the boxing spot light and sets up a possible mega showdown with “Pretty Boy” Floyd Jr. in September.
