The Weight was Too much! Cintron Falls from ring, Williams gets “Win”

In what can only be described as a freak accident, Paul Williams defeated Kermit Cintron by split decision after Cintron fell out of the ring and had to be taken away on a stretcher. Under California rules, after the 3rd round, the fight must go to the score cards. Two of the judges had Williams ahead, while the other judge had Cintron winning the first 3 round.

The fight started off promising, with both fighters letting their hands go. In typical Williams style, Paul used his slick skills to punch his way past Cintrons defense. The fighters seemed to slow down the action in the 2nd and 3rd round, before going toe-to-toe in the fourth. After Williams had landed two hard punches, Cintron answered with a fierce right that stood Williams straight up. As the crowd started to go crazy, the fighters legs became entangled that led to the Cintron Fall.

No word yet on Cintron’s injury.

Amir Khan Gets Visa, heads to NYC!

LOS ANGELES, May 7 – After an administrative delay which caused a temporary relocation of his training camp locale from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada, WBA Super Lightweight World Champion Amir Khan has received his P1 visa and will be heading to New York City as originally scheduled on Sunday in order to defend his title against hometown hero Paulie Malignaggi at the Theater in Madison Square Garden on Saturday, May 15.

“This is great news and I can’t wait to get to New York to finish up my training, get in the ring next Saturday and teach Paulie Malignaggi a lesson,” said Khan.  ”He’s been running his mouth for a while now and was probably hoping I wouldn’t get into New York.  Well, Paulie, I’m on my way and you’re going to be my next knockout victim on May 15.”

Upon hearing the news about Khan’s P1 Visa, Malignaggi said, “Welcome back to America, Amir.  Now get ready for some punishment on May 15.”

Margarito & Garcia make weight in Mexico

ANTONIO MARGARITO (154 Lbs) — “I am so glad to get back into the ring. I really missed the crowds and all of the fans — but I always kept training. I never left the ring. I feel strong and I am ready. During the last year I have always been in the ring working on my timing and keeping sharp.  I expect Garcia to charge right at me on Saturday night. That is something I will deal with in the ring.”

ROBERTO GARCIA (153 Lbs) — “My preparation was just not hard, but smart. This has been my best-ever training camp. My claws are sharpened.  Working with Freddie Roach also means a lot of film study. Freddie knows everything there is about Margarito.
I am not the same fighter I was two years ago.  I’m a world champion in waiting.  And one thing is for sure – Margarito is going to have trouble hitting a moving target.”

Yuri Foreman To Run Clinic for the “Police Boxing Program for Kids” tomorrow in Staten Island

Israeli World Boxing Association Champion Yuri Foreman will run a boxing clinic for 35 children of the “Police Boxing Program for Kids”.  While Yuri Foreman has his mind set on his world title defense against Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium on June 5, tomorrow, he will take a break from his rigorous training to give 35 young boxers some personal trainer tips and pointers. The master class, organized in collaboration with the Israeli Consulate in NYand the NY Police Boxing Program for Kids, is intended to expose the amateur boxers to the challenges of the professional world.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to team up with the representatives of my homeland and give back to the community. I believe that through boxing these children will become not only stronger but smarter.”

“We’re glad to join Yuri Foreman once again in giving back to the people of New York. Yuri has taught us that being a world champion isn’t just a title but a responsibility and that a true winner uses his influence to make a change in the lives of others,” stated Joel Lion, Consul for Media at the Israeli Consulate.

“The Atlas Foundation/NYC Cops & Kids Boxing program is honored to have Yuri Foreman speak to our boxers and provide them with a boxing clinic in Staten Island. Mayweather Dominates Mosley, Stays unbeaten!

Floyd Mayweather Jr virtually shut out future hall of famer Shane Mosley over 12 rounds to remain unbeaten and further distance himself as the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Mayweather (41-0) controlled the fight with his speed and power shots, seemingly landing at will. Mosley (46-6) landed two flush power shots in the 2nd round, but was unable to connect with anything from then on. After the 3rd round, Mosley was breathing heavy taking pot shots from Mayweather.

After the fight, a usually classy Larry Merchant prodded Mayweather on his whether or not Floyd would agree to lower his demand that Manny Pacquiao take part in olympic style drug testing. Mayweather reiterated that all he wanted was an even playing field.”If Manny Pacquiao can take a blood and urine test then we have a fight,” Mayweather said. “If not, no fight.”

Now that he’s further proven he’s the best around, Pac-man may not have a choice.
