Versus Showcases “Fight Night: Best of Live” this Thursday

It will be a holiday celebration of fisticuffs when VERSUS presents its Fight Night: Best of Live telecast this Thursday night, December 14 from 9-11 p.m. ET. This year-end special will showcase some of the great performances televised this year as part of VERSUS’ Fight Night in conjunction with Top Rank Boxing. Launched in July 2006, Fight Night consists of a series of live fights promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank group, as well as classic fights from their vast library. Fight Night on VERSUS airs every Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET. .

Maskaev Retains Title!

Oleg Maskaev came out victorious in his first defense of his WBC Heavyweight title. Oleg Maskaev defeated Peter Okhello Sunday morning, U.S. time, on a cold chilly night in Russia. The crowd of 10,000 proudly cheered on the new Russian citizen.

Moorer Back in the Ring

Former Two-Time Heavyweight Champion Michael Moorer (48-4-1, 38KOs) only needed 1 minute and thirty six seconds to get back into the ring and knock out Cliff Clouser (25-11, 13KOs). With an overhand right hand shot off the ropes, Southpaw Moorer sent Clouser to the mat. Moorer looks to get back into the heavy weight mix and believes he can beat any of the heavyweight champions.

Jermaine Taylor Defeats Ouma! Berto Impressive

Middleweight Champion Jermaine “Bad Intentions” Taylor (26-0-1, 17KOs) defeated Kassim ‘The Dream” Ouma (25-3-1, 15KOs) in a twelve-round unanimous decision at the AllTell Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas. Performing in front of a hometown crowd, Taylor came out strong in the first two rounds seeking to knock-out the smaller but persistent challenger.

Taylor-Ouma Live Tonight!

LITTLE ROCK, United States (AFP) – Undefeated World Boxing Council middleweight champion Jermain Taylor will make a hometown defense of his crown in a 12-round showdown with Uganda-born southpaw Kassim Ouma here Saturday.

Taylor comes off two triumphs over former undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins last year and a June draw with Winky Wright that allowed him to keep the title, the first stain after his 25-0 pro start with 17 knockouts.

“Sweet Pea” Pernell Whittaker enters International Boxing Hall of Fame

Four-time world champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY, as part of its 2007 class, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. The museum will conduct the induction festivities on June 7-10th.

Cotto-Margarito In June?

Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito are set to face each other next June in New York at Madison Square Garden. Both fighters Welterweight Titles will be on the line, with the winner to possibly fight whoever comes out of the Winky Wright, Oscar De La Hoya, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. triangle. That fight would more than likely take place in early 2008.

But before Cotto and Margarito can face each other, they must both face mandatory challengers. Cotto will fight Oktay Urkal in March and Margarito will fight Paul Williams sometime around March as well.

Ready For A Busy Boxing Weekend?

Boxing fans are in for a treat Saturday night when both SHOWTIME and HBO are scheduled to show two great fight cards at the same time. HBO will televise Winky Wright vs Ike Quartey live from Tampa Florida. Fighting on the undercard of the Wright-Quartey fight will be former Super Middleweight Champ Jeff Lacy. He will take on Vitali Tsykpo.

SHOWTIME will be showing one of their biggest cards of the year, featuring two great Welterweight fighters. In the main event, Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto will take on Carlos Quintana for the vacant WBA Welterweight Title. Both fighters are from Puerto Rico and both are undefeated. In the undercard, Antonio Margarito will take on Josh Clottey for Margarito`s WBO Welterweight Title.

De La Hoya-Wright In The Future?

The Los Angeles Daily News is reporting that Oscar De La Hoya`s fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th may not be his last afterall. The newspaper states that if De La Hoya defeats the pound-for-pound king in May, then a fight with Ronald “Winky” Wright could come soon after. Both fighters have recently stated that they would love to fight each other, if the opportunity ever presented itself. Wright feels that Oscar will in fact beat Mayweather, because he is “faster and stronger”. But beating Mayweather Jr. is easier said than done!
