Quick Hits: Zab Judah Returns, Peter vs. Maskaev, 50 Cent Bets on Mayweather Jr and more

Zab “Super” Judah is set to make his return to the boxing ring next Friday night when he takes on journeyman Ruben Galvan. The fight will be televised on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”. Judah (34-4, 25KO’s) is coming off a six month suspension for his involvement in an in-ring riot last May after he hit Floyd Mayweather Jr. with an intentional low blow. If Judah is victorious over Galvan, he’s set up for a June 6th WBA Welterweight Championship fight against champion Miguel Cotto.


– ESPN’s Dan Rafael is reporting that WBC Heavyweight Champion Oleg Maskaev will fight mandatory challenger Sam Peter in his next bout. Reports had surfaced that Maskaev (34-5, 26KO’s) was looking to side-step a Peter fight in order to take on Vital Klitschko. Peter’s camp was offered $2.5 million dollars to step aside, but rejected the offer. Peter (28-1, 22KO’s) an Maskaev will touch gloves for the title later this summer. Rafael also states that Klitschko’s side has decided to hold off on a championship fight and wait for the winner of Maskaev-Peter.
– Joe Calzaghe (42-0, 31KO’s) will defend his title this Saturday against “Contender” star Peter Manfredo Jr (26-3, 12KO’s). The fight will be televised at 5pm EST/2pm PST live on HBO. A replay will be shown later at night at 10pm EST.Calzaghe is looking to get a big time fight in America with the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, or Jermain Taylor. Hopkins has said that if Calzaghe is interested in a fight with him, he must come to America.
– 50 Cent is so confident that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will beat Oscar De La Hoya, he has placed a $1M bet on Floyd. 50 cent, real name Curtis Jackson, is also working on preparing an entrance song for Mayweather.
