During the next 497 days, touchgloves.com will follow several amateur boxers who are aspiring to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
The challenges each amateur boxer has to face on their way to the Olympic games, the training, preparations, sacrifices and mental stress are hardly exposed. Recently, the USA Amateur boxing program has faced severe set-backs. With the lack of funds, proper organization, leadership and community support, our future champions are finding it more difficult to obtain the tools, training and funds to train and compete. The editors at touchgloves.com hope to introduce you to our future champions. We will join elite amateur boxers during their journey to the 2008 Olympics. touchgloves.com contributors will follow these boxers through local tournaments, training sessions, interviews and bring you candid thoughts of these bright young stars.
For many young athletes, the chance to participate in the Olympic games is a dream come true. It is the Superbowl, the World Series, the NBA finals, the World Cup, and Kentucky Derby all wrapped into a few weeks of events and festivities. It is a platform for celebration and creativity, culture and diversity.
It is a time where each individual athlete competes not only for him or herself but for their country as well. The world’s elite put forth their best and brightest in hopes of obtaining a piece of Olympic Gold. While the victory ceremonies and post-Olympic celebrations are glorious, the road to achieving such greatness is not as celebrated.
The Olympic Games are to boxing, what the minor leagues are to Major League Baseball. Typically, an Olympic boxer goes on to becoming a top contender and often a World Champion. Past Olympic stars include, Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr., and Oscar De La Hoya who are a few of the sports biggest names.
stay tuned for the “Road to the Olympics by touchgloves.com” and meet our future champions
