Valuev-McCline In One BIG Fight Tonight!

BASEL, SWITZERLAND (TICKER) — Nikolay Valuev is obsessed with Rocky Marciano`s record.

The tallest heavyweight champion of all time, Valuev will defend his WBA title against American Jameel McCline on Saturday.

Valuev (45-0, 33 KOs) is four wins shy of matching Marciano`s streak of 49 consecutive wins.

“I definitely want to break his record,” Valuev said. “If there`s the chance to get your name in the history books with such a great record, it is of course my aim to accomplish it. But that does not mean I will fight weak opponents.”

The 7-foot, 328-pound Russian confirmed he would welcome a fight with IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko.

“If Klitschko wants to fight me before I have broken the record, I`ll be ready at any time,” Valuev said.

But first he must beat the 36-year-old McCline (38-6-3, 22 KOs) to remain unbeaten.

“I have trained harder than ever before and am in my best shape ever”, McCline said. I have come to Basel to win the title. I am full of respect for Nikolai but he is slow and mechanical. My explosiveness and my speed will give me the edge. I will be the first one to beat him.”

With nearly 600 pounds in the ring, Saturday`s clash will be the heaviest bout of all time.

Valuev recorded an 11th-round technical knockout of Monte Barrett in his last fight on October 7.

Valuev won the WBA title with a majority decision over John Ruiz in Berlin in December 2005. He successfully defended the title in Germany with a third-round TKO of Owen Beck last June before beating Barrett at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
