VERSUS “LEGENDS OF THE RING” TO SHOWCASE ALEX ARGUELLO-BOOM BOOM MANCINI 1981 FIGHT THIS THURSDAY MARCH 8 FROM 9-11 PM ET

Stamford, CT (March 7, 2007) – VERSUS will allow fight fans to relive a classic performance by the legendary Alex Arguello when it televises his 1981 title defense against Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini on its Legends of the Ring series in conjunction with Top Rank Boxing this Thursday, March 8 from 9-11 p.m. ET.


Arguello, a world champion in three different weight classes, was making his first title defense of his WBC lightweight title as he prepared to meet the undefeated Mancini in Atlantic City. The young challenger gave a good account of himself for the first 10 rounds before the Eddie Futch trained Arguello took him to school. Mancini began tiring in the 11th round and was stopped by Arguello in the 14th round.
